Dental Veneers in Springwood
Do you refrain from smiling due to teeth that are irregularly shaped, discoloured, or worn down? We want to help you love your smile with veneers! A veneer is a shell of porcelain that you put on the front teeth, making your teeth appear longer and whiter.
These tooth coverings are bonded to the front surface of the teeth, usually for cosmetic reasons. Veneers can also help improve your bite and prevent damage to a tooth in certain situations.
In-Chair vs Lab-Made Veneers
We can create veneers for you in our practice. This is a less expensive alternative to lab-made ones, but the life expectancy of in-chair veneers is also shorter. You can expect them to last about four to five years. The amount of tooth enamel that needs to be removed is minimal, so this approach is very conservative.
Lab-made veneers are custom-made for your teeth, using impressions we make in our practice. Until your tooth coverings are ready, we will put temporary ones on so your teeth aren’t exposed. When they’re ready (it takes about 10 days for them to return to the practice), we will bond them to the front of your teeth and shape them as necessary.
The cost of lab-made veneers for several teeth is expensive, and it’s unlikely a person would need a veneer for just one tooth, so the cost can be prohibitive. When price is a barrier, in-chair ones are a good option. Veneers may also be a more conservative, temporary solution to help delay the need for crowns or bridges.
When NOT to Get Veneers
These tooth-coloured shells are not a good solution when there is extensive loss of the tooth structure because there won’t be enough material to bond the veneer to. If you have a traumatic bite, you will break the tooth covering constantly. In these cases, we’ll explain options that are better suited to your situation.
